One story at a time.
The healing that can grow out of the simple act of telling our stories is often quite remarkable.”

Question of the Month: Why should I be grateful?
Gratitude ~
Being a person with gratitude goes beyond a journal or a simple thank you. Looking at any situation with positivity can lead to feelings of gratitude. Gratitude can be a great feeling that has many added benefits including creative thinking, increased mental productivity, and a better attention span.
On the physiological side of our brains, researchers say that gratitude can boost the neurotransmitter serotonin and can activate the brain stem to create dopamine. What does that mean? Dopamine is the brain's happy chemical. The more we are grateful and create positive thoughts the happier and mentally healthy we will be.
All of this can add improvements to your relationships. Health, performances at work or school, your goals and dreams, and just overall life enjoyment.
How can you start being more grateful?
Everyone knows about gratitude journaling but what about…
Daily affirmations
Meditation or quiet time
Expressing gratefulness to those around you
Speaking positivity can in turn make those around you more happy and positive.
Let us know if you use any of these tips!

Journaling
I am sure you have heard about journaling before and may have been told that it is a great addition to your daily routine. But do you really know why? The Loving Roots Project explains the benefits perfectly,
1) Express and clarify emotions, thoughts, and experiences
2) Improve self-confidence
3) Increase self-awareness
4) Reduce stress
5) Work on problem-solving
6) Improve memory and cognitive function
7) Help with Goal setting
I have been journaling almost daily for 3 years now and when I look back I am amazed how much I have grown. It not only helps me keep track of my goals but also encourages me to keep going. Seeing how far you have come is one of the greatest rewards of starting your healing journey.
I challenge you to go out buy a cute journal or use one that you already have and just start writing. The hardest part is to start, but I promise that if you keep it up the benefits will follow.
Let us know if you start journaling!

Setting Goals
Creating goals is often overlooked when it comes to healing. It may seem like a small activity but the feeling of looking back and seeing the goals you wrote 6 mo. or a year ago has been healing for me and my journey. I always feel encouraged and excited to keep going. I found a website, I will link below, that talks about recovery goals, “Goals aren’t always about what you achieve. You can set goals that help you reframe your thinking, set up healthy habits and create positive outcomes in your life.” Reflect and try to imagine where you want to be mentally, spiritually and physically and start there. They also have many tips about how to write goals and different kinds that will create different outcomes.
I also have written another piece, for the Love, Sofia project, about goal setting. It explains the different kinds of goals and how to use them to your best advantage. Also I share where to start and how to write goals that can be achieved. Check it out here.
